Suzuki VL800 Volusia (Red Hot Mamma)

by Andrew Jones
(Wales United Kingdom)

Red hot Mamma

Red hot Mamma

"Ok here we have my metric bobber (Red Hot Mamma) which started life as a Suzuki Vl800 Intruder. Over the past 15 months or so she has gone through an extensive makeover into what she is today, a Hot Rod bobber with loads of new bits 'n bobs fitted. She confuses alot of people as she rumbles down the road, always mistaken as a Harley upon 1st appearance, until closer inspection, and you pick up on the shaft drive.

Shes been lowered in the back 3" with a shorter shock fitted, and dropped 1" in front. Handlebars are 40" custom low rider 1" bars with internal wiring, fitted with vintage white grips. The risers have been coated in brass paint and rubbed back. The front forks are standard and been powder coated black. I removed the top chrome dust covers and kept the bottom ones which are powder coated black with a brass bevel edge trim to them. The wheels are powder coated in pillar box red colour, and fitted with Avon venom white walls. The pipes are stock front ends been cut back a few inches and fitted to Screaming Eagle 2 cans wrapped in a copper colour heat wrap, straight through no bafflers here! The tank is still in the standard black but the chrome around the clock has been powder coated black.

The headlamp is off an old Harley but I have no history of what model (it's been done in brass). All indicators/ flasher switches, etc. have been removed leaving just a basic headlamp and stop/tail light setup. The seat is an Ultima which has been custom done in a white leather and hand stitched, and fitted to 3" springs connected to some brackets that I made up for the frame. Under the seat is a dummy oil tank that I made out of a small pedal bin, which now houses the battery and electrics. The rear fender is a stainless steel trailor fender which has been cut back and welded to the swing arm. A side mounted plate is fitted to an old skool Millar light.

Well, that's my ride. Not even 4 yrs old but looks more like 50yrs old... Just the way I like it.... Modern technology with the old skool looks."

That's a wicked looking bobber Andrew! Bloody nice build.
